What was Dumbledore's favorite excuse for Voldemort? He never knew love, right? Well let's imagine for a moment: what if he did? What if Tom Marvolo Riddle knew what love was? Would he still be the Dark Wizard Harry Potter just defeated? Would he be different?
Right after the Battle for Hogwarts, Harry, followed by Ron, Hermione, and Ginny, walks absently to the room where the Mirror of Erised lies. Dumbledore never moved it from the school, come to find out. Harry needed to see the face of his parents after what just happened. He finds the Mirror and is not surprised to see his parents, Sirius, Remus and Tonks, Dumbledore and Fred in the Mirror, staring back at him with happy expressions. It's then that he notices the man staring back at him. The Harry in the mirror has no scar. So this is his truly happy self, surrounded by friends and family. In the Mirror, Ginny runs up to the Mirror Harry and flings herself into his arms. Why couldn't his life be like that? So easy and carefree?
Careful what you wish for! As Harry starts weaving a spell, just verbally, the surface of the Mirror starts to change, and ripple like water. Hermione, Ron, and Ginny start screaming at Harry to stop, not knowing what's going on -- they cannot see what he sees. What happens next, shocks everyone. Harry has been pulled into another realm where everything in his life that went wrong, never happened. Voldemort never existed. Tom Riddle was kept by his mother and is now the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts.
